How-To: DIY Beauty Treatments

With only a few natural ingredients, you can create your own luxurious body scrub or face spritzer!

We love a trip to the beauty counter as much as anyone, but sometimes- we long for simple products that don’t break the bank. That’s where Adina of S.W. Basics of Brooklyn comes in. Adina founded her skin care line with the goal of creating products that wouldn’t irritate her sensitive skin. Before long, she was making products from scratch using only whole, high-potency ingredients- and people (including us!!) were loving it. Today, Adina joins Rue with a few “Beauty Recipes,” allowing you to create natural products in the comfort of your own home. Whether you’re making the Body Scrub or the Face Spritzer, each item has less than 5 ingredients- and you’re totally going to love the results. Take it away, Adina:

Body Scrub:
1 cup coffee grounds after you make coffee
1/2 cup melted coconut oil
10 drops vanilla oil
10 drops lavender oil

Coffee is one of nature’s best kept skincare secrets. It is anti-aging, stimulates blood flow, prevents skin damage, and may even combat cellulite! Holy goodness. If you have some flavored coffee you can skip the essential oils, the fragrance of this scrub will blow your mind on its own. Mix the ingredients together well and apply vigorously like in an Herbal Essences commercial.

Face Spritzer:
1/2 cup rosewater
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
10 drops grapefruit essential oil
10 drops clary sage oil

So what is a face spritzer anyways? It’s so many things! Think of it as a reset button for your face. This particular face spritzer will lift your mood, get rid of oily build-up, tone those pores, and give you an all-around glow. Mix the ingredients together, shake well and apply either from a spritzer/spray bottle or with cotton, especially in the middle of the day when you’re feeling sluggish and so is your face.

My facialist also gave me a great tip: mix baking soda with water for an easy at-home exfoliate that doesn’t break the bank. It’s perfect when I’m out of my regular stuff or just want a cheap version to break away old skin!
