We are all too familiar with the phrase “it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it,” but it’s very difficult to style an outfit when our accessories are in disarray. We’ve come to realize that organizing your accessories not only saves time, since you don’t have to dig to find a matching pair of studs, but it also helps you create the perfect ensemble. By displaying your jewelry in a manner that allows you to see all of your choices you will be more prone to playing around and reaching for rarely worn accessories instead of defaulting to your everyday necklace or earrings.

What we recommend is finding organizers that are just as cute as your jewelry such as these small bowls for your rings and brooches. A necklace and bracelet organizer definitely help display what you own and prevent things from getting tangled. If you are anything like us, two organizers will not suffice, in which case we recommend you will want to invest in an organizing tray. Organizing trays will help keep things nice and neat, the only downside is that there is no limit to how many you can stack on one another so… this might just enable all of you jewelry fiends!

Once you have found a way to create your display, you can begin to play! Add accents that inspire you- part of getting ready and creating great outfits is having the inspiration to do so. Small figurines, a vase with flowers or a small plant will give your space an element of life and whimsy. You can also add art prints that inspire you or create a mood board of your favorite looks, this will ultimately help you better develop your sense of style. Overall, we are big believers in organizing your accessories as it not only helps keep things nice and neat, but also leads to unique and well-put together polished ensembles!

If you are seriously into costume jewelry (I have my mother’s collection plus a vast one of my own) the best things for storage are large clear plastic multi-compartment boxes you can find at hardware and craft stores for less than $10 each. I have sorted items into color ranges making it easy to find the perfect necklace or earrings quickly. The boxes stack neatly – you can fit hundreds of items into quite a small space. I also store extra earring backings, clasps and jewelry pliers in one box so that quick repairs can be done right away.

That’s such a great tip! Especially the color coordinating… that will make a big difference in my collection.
