Nautical-inspired furniture and decor is its own category in the world of design. Magazines are dedicated to it and furniture collections are inspired by it, year in and year out. So when we see something that breathes a breath of fresh air into a well known concept, we’re intrigued: Stephen Kenn, a designer known for his focus of craft and contemporary lines, has partnered with the Japanese fashion brand Colony 2139 to create the Bowline Collection.

Each piece in the Bowline collection has a hint of nautical inspiration, though feels quite fresh and modern. Stephen referenced time spent on his father’s boat off the west coast of Canada to design the collection, from the stonewashed sailing cloth to the sandblasted wood. We love the simplicity of it, and find it will pair perfectly with patterned throw pillows or look fresh in a minimalist setting. Start the slideshow for a closer look at the thoughtful details.
