This is Part 2 of our Market Editor, Victoria de la Camara’s account of team Rue’s time at AmericasMart in Atlanta. Read Part 1 here.
We made a our last day at AmericasMart count! We had an early start to hit the rug-centric showrooms that we’ve had deep partnerships with. First on the list was Loloi. Their Magnolia Home Collection by Joanna Gaines has been doing unbelievably well, and we were curious about Ellen’s new collection for them. As a lover of a modern aesthetic with natural elements, Ellen’s design point of view has always been up my alley, so I was keen to see how it translated into rugs and pillows. Of course we ended up loving it all–simple enough to work in any space, interesting enough to stand out.
Jaipur Living was another exciting showroom for us. We were impressed by the different techniques and materials they used for their rugs. Natural jute was treated in such a way that it felt like wool, and relief patterns mixed with flat weave created an interesting combination for another style of rug.
We then stopped by Bliss Studio, Regina Andrew, Blue Pheasant, and Farmhouse Pottery, where we met James, co-owner and head potter of the brand. In such a small showroom there was so much inspiration that we took away with us, including a little clever match-strike that makes for the perfect gift (or self-gift).
In the afternoon we attended the seminar called “What Men Want”, which was a fascinating discussion about the growing percentage of male consumers of design. They made an excellent point that household cooking is now becoming a 50/50 shared task within couples, so kitchens are becoming a focal point for men in design.
Leave it to AmericasMart to make a great lasting impression. We headed over to a swanky bar called Venkman’s for an exclusive cocktail party that was disco–themed. Our team thoroughly enjoyed putting on heart-shaped gold glasses and hats for a couple of rounds of photos at the photobooth, and then headed to the dance floor with cocktail in hand to get-down to some vintage disco classics.
