We love places that serve the food of a destination restaurant with the cozy feel of a neighborhood spot. That’s the feeling Tara Oxley has created in her Brooklyn restaurant, Eugene & Co. Growing up in an Italian family, Tara’s mother often cooked home meals from her grandma’s recipes. Food was always a big part of life and family gatherings, despite frequent moves due to her father’s military service. Tara wanted walking into her restaurant to evoke a that homey, cozy feeling she grew up surrounded by. She even named her restaurant after her grandfather. The 38 seat eatery is outfitted with a mahogany bar reclaimed from a Polish Veterans of Foreign War bar in Brooklyn, plush leather banquettes, rehabbed school chairs, whitewashed walls that took 120 hours to create, and a melted candle chandelier shipped over from Italy’s design fair Solone del Milano.
