The backstory of this hotel reads like an indie movie: Petter and Linn, two Swedish natives, started traveling for 5 years during and after college, all the while keeping a travel blog called Sunshine Stories to keep their close friends and family up to date. They shared their experiences, the fascinating people and locations that they encountered on the way. Once they finished their degree, they decided to convert their years of traveling around Sri Lanka into a hotel and retreat. Thus, Ceylon Sliders was born.

More than just a boutique hotel, this retreat is the hospitality equivalent of their blog Sunshinestories. With just a handful of rooms, each named and inspired by the locations that became iconic for them, it’s a place about connecting with your surroundings, a mix of a nomadic surf lifestyle with the island’s heritage. Located in Waligama, in Sri Lanka, many of the guest rooms have views of the bay — not just a wonderful luxury for those looking to relax but also a strategic position for those looking to find the optimal time for surfing. For those who aren’t so much surfers, and more yogis, Ceylon Sliders has yoga twice a day.

Besides the hotel, the surf and yoga, Ceylon Sliders is also a cafe and shop. Petter and Linn wanted to bring fresh ingredients and dishes to the table, being mindful of each item’s provenance. Guests can enjoy Sri Lankan tea, which is known to be some of the world’s finest, or for coffee lovers, a great brew made from beans that are also sourced locally.
