We were perusing through old issues of Rue when we stumbled upon this unique decor trick that we just had to share! It’s no secret that we’re big fans of unique headboards. We’ve shared lists of our favorites, ideas for making an alternative one, and even suggested this trick to relinquish the item all together. However, this layered look might be the best interpretation yet.

Follow the lead of homeowner Lisa Camp and use two unique pieces to make one big statement. In this example, she started with a vintage headboard with beautiful carved detailing. A coat of paint made the piece look new and the color perfectly complemented the serene space. Behind the headboard, an old wooden door was placed for contrast. The rustic piece looks more like an art installation than a headboard, which adds a major “wow factor” to the space. We love it!

RUE TIP: You don’t have to have a rustic or vintage-inspired space to make this work in your home. We want to know– what items would you layer to achieve the same look?
