If you’ve seen our October issue (#FallIntoRue), you likely noticed the dark & moody cover. The striking living room (with that glamorous black piano!!) belongs to San Francisco interior designer, Lizette Bruckstein, the star of our monthly “Meet the Designer” column. We wanted to take a closer look at the impactful space… it’s just that good!
Nestled in a downtown high-rise, Lizette knew that the modern, cookie-cutter layout wasn’t for her. Instead, she found ways to add the Victorian charm of classic San Francisco homes. She was generous with coats of dark paint, installed crown moulding and chair rails to give it a dose of personality, and added an antique fireplace facade and a piano to give it a sense of history.
As many designers discover, the hardest part was finding time to work on her own home. Lizette says, “Being creative for other people is easy, it’s harder to focus on myself – classic ‘the cobbler’s children have no shoes’ syndrome.” Though she may have struggled during the process, the finished result is picture-perfect.
